Solar Panels and Electricity Generation

Academy trusts may often have land or buildings suitable for the installation of solar panels.

While the panels can provide a useful way to obtain an environmentally sensitive source of free electricity for the school there may also be considerable scope to generate surplus electricity to provide a source of additional income for the academy trust.

In some instances the electricity produced will be supported by “Feed-in Tariff” grants, but often the energy will simply be purchased by an electricity supply company.
